CENTRAL BRITTANY, Coast to Coast  by Penny Allen

REVIEWS

“...the first section of the book contains descriptions of the towns, places of interest, beaches, castles, churches and beauty spots of the region, supplemented by maps, photographs and drawings. The second section describes twelve walks ... with a map, directions, notes, and information about distances, level of difficulty, etc. for each walk. A useful guide to visitors to the area and as a reference book for residents.”

Central Brittany Journal

This neat little guidebook to central Brittany covers that area from the north to south coast, divided into six sections. Each of these includes alphabetical listings and details of sights worth seeing and places worth visiting. Following some of the recommendations have led to many good discoveries, including some interesting but not well known places. There are also lots of colour illustrations and some little line drawings of architectural features by the author. A lot of small details in the text give the authentic flavour of her personal experience and knowledge of the area. As well as all this, there are twelve walks given with full directions and maps, so you can explore the countryside on foot at a leisurely pace. The one of these I've done so far was excellent - can't wait to try the others! There's a lot of variety in this book - chateaux, churches and chapels, seaside resorts, medieval towns, natural wonders, activities for children etc. I've enjoyed using it for visits myself and for recommending places to others.
