Book description
A collection of short stories and poems, inspired by the striking landscape and legendary past of the Monts d'Arrée. The Yeun Elez, said to be the site of the entrance to the Celtic underworld, has given rise to many traditional tales of mystery and magic. This book both adds new stories to the mix and also gives unexpected twists to older legends, underpinned by a light touch of ironic humour. One of the stories was among the prize-winners in the competition organized by the Parc d'Armorique in 2010 to create a legend explaining the disappearance of the nuclear power station from the Monts d'Arrée. The text is ENGLISH AND FRENCH (turn the book over to read again in the other language), making it a useful tool for language learners.
About the author
Wendy Mewes is a writer, guide and teacher who has lived in the Monts d’Arrée for many years. She is the author of eight books about Brittany, and also writes e-books, web-text and articles for newspapers and magazines. She works to promote the heritage and landscape of Brittany to Anglophones through courses and guided tours. She has appeared on French TV for her work on the Nantes-Brest canal, and broadcast a radio series about the history of Brittany on Spotlight radio.
